We started our vineyard adventure when visiting vineyards worldwide including Australia’s Barossa and Hunter valleys (as backpackers) and then over the years, Italy, France, England and Wales. It was only when we visited vineyards in England and Wales that we realised how good British wine could be and a dream to create wine in Cheshire was born. 

Armed with Simon’s background in geology and some research on site suitability our search for land began, however, we didn’t realise how hard it would be, especially in Cheshire where large parts are blanketed by thick glacial clay which is slow draining. After searching for over a year and battling the very competitive market, we couldn’t believe that we finally secured a perfect spot. The steep south and southwest facing slopes are ideal for growing vines due to the natural drainage and important sun exposure to help ripen the grapes.

After preparing the soil we hand planted 3400 vines over weekends, evenings and bank holidays in May/June 2023 with the help of family whilst maintaining our full time jobs and looking after a young family. Hard work, but really rewarding when we’d finished the planting and saw the first green buds. We also had 2600 vines machine planted and were amazed to witness the team operating the machinery, planting all 2600 vines in one morning! 

Our aim is to produce exclusive, quality still and sparkling English wine sustainably. We are looking forward to welcoming people to our boutique vineyard and sharing our passion for nurturing and caring for vines to produce locally grown, fine wine.
